  I can only speak for what I might do in the situation, based on my feelings, but hopefully this might help at all...

  I've never been a JW but am a Christian (married to a DF'd JW); I would think that as long as I felt the mother really had total faith that the org was the "Truth" and wasn't seeming to just hold things out as a lame excuse, I'd feel compelled to be compassionate anyway. Being a Christian, I'd feel additionally compelled to help based on my beliefs, and I'd also want to prove to her that people other than JW's have hearts and actual and practical truth~!

  adam was the progenitor of the whole human race, from his genes sprang the negroid, caucasian, mongoloid, indo-european and every other race on the planet.

  I think it's highly possible Adam could have been anywhere from very dark black to pale, simply depending on the melanin content in his skin. I'm somewhat inclined to personally think he may have been somewhat brown, but then I know I could be wrong, but it doesn't make any difference to me.

  I think the more you get exposed to the exposure of the hidden gems of the WT, the less guilty you'll feel about maybe feeling like you might've "failed" the WT. I am a Christian married to my now DF'd JW wife, who's been going through quite a lot and just working on looking into the WT but needs to feel she's looking at more solid proof regarding prophecies, etc., so I'm going to at least get one rare WT old book about something along the lines of the failed 1925 prophecy about Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob being resurrected, etc...

  I would encourage you to read the Bible for yourself, trying to maintain a neutral viewpoint as you read it to see if you can at least feel more assured that the WT definitely has taken a great many things far out of context to support most (if not all) of their major views. God bless and my best wishes for getting over the WT and religion, in general. My personal feeling is that people need a one-on-one relationship with God, and churches, Bible study groups, etc. can help but should never be a platform of control.

  almost a month ago my work mates mother jumped in front of a train!

  she was 54. just the week before he was telling me how he was worried about her mental health.

  Yes; it is sometimes a major eye-opener to hear what others have experienced and how things can change so quickly in a lot of people's lives, and I've noticed at least one theme about people having depression that may not have seemed quite so bad and yet that seemed to lead to suicide. I just pray that people coming to this forum will share whenever they might be depressed, being open for some help.

  That really was a brutally terrible week. Sorry all those things happened. It's really messed up how sometimes it just seems like it pours when those types of things are aweful enough in single events.

  It is sad isnt it, I'm just like gobsmacked. Anyhows, I have the knack of dissociating when things get overpowering, I learned it from the WT, it comes in handy.

  Sorry that all happened. I can somewhat relate. When I was 15, I remember being at the funeral of my father in his house just 2 months after everyone, including him, was there for my grandmother's funeral, and then just a couple years before that my stepbrother killed himself with my father's gun, and then at 16 a really good friend I grew up with hung herself, then I saw my grandfather die in front of me about a year later, then saw my grandmother's gawking wide-open eyes in the hospital bed, dead apparently from choking to death. And then a good friend got killed (I feel somewhat sure) by two other people I knew and grew up with just another year later.

  Sorry for the mini-rant; it's a little different, I know, but I think I can understand and wonder if you and some of your co-workers almost have that same "who's next" thinking like I had back then. It made me somewhat more calloused about some things, and I've felt some regret about it at times. I hope everything works out as best as possible for you, your co-workers, and all family involved.

  well, i have read the first few chapters of the latest edition and am surprised at what i read.. the bickering behind the society - how some decisions were not based on scriptural reference - the 607 date - and where the gentile times 1914 thing came about - the malawi/mexico business - ray franz has a very interesting story about the society/governing body amongst other things.. it seems that ever since he was there, he constantly came across things he didnt agree with.. the voting system that was set up to see what articles went in the magazines.. there was one bit in there about being "scriptually free to marry".

  one sister caught her husband and an animal together....well..you know......and she divorced him.

  she remarried but then told she wasnt free to scriptually marry and they disfellowshipped/dissassociated her.......how ridiculous is that.. and so the story goes........... i thought i would just put my bit in on the first section i have read...will write more when i have read more..

  The real question should be- Why do the JW's disfellowship repentant people when they state in their own law books that they will only disfellowship unrepentant people ?

  The thing is they will follow the bible when they need to make a point or they will follow their own laws. They are literally making a new "bible" as they go along. Maybe in 10 years, this will have a new light shed on it and they will no longer do that.

  This is an interesting point. Maybe if they ever start to suffer too much attrition due to the above, maybe some "new light" will find its way to the WT, but they'd better hope it's one of those "better-late-than-never" scenarios~!
